History
Ernest Sheldon Booth, (1915-1984) a noted biologist, ornithologist, and professor began the undergraduate and graduate Biology programs at Walla Walla College, a Seventh-day Adventist institution. He was head of the Biology department for 20 years. He also founded the Walla Walla College Rosario Beach Marine Station, Anacortes, Washington. After leaving Walla Walla College, he became Professor of Biology, Loma Linda University.
He became aware of the needs in the mission field through his extensive travels and letters from his former students. He saw inadequate equipment and facilities; and even simple medicines and supplies were not available. He shared his concern with friends and colleagues--and from this beginning, more than thirty years ago, WORLD MEDICS, INC., was born. Through fund raising and donations, many missions were helped, equipment was purchased, buildings were built and medicines were provided.
Dr. Booth founded an educational slide and filmstrip business called Outdoor Pictures. He also authored ten biology books including BIRDS OF THE WEST and BIRDS OF THE EAST.
In 1983, Walla Walla College honored him with the dedication of the "Ernest S. Booth Marine Laboratory" building and library at the Rosario Marine Station.
Until his death in 1984, Dr. Booth, As president of the board of directors of World Medics, Inc., continued his efforts to make a difference in many parts of the world, and fund a wide variety of worthwhile projects.
